Lifeguard RECERTIFICATION ClassSchoolThis class is ONLY for students who are already Lifeguard Certified but it has expired or will expire. Class Information Instructor is Coach Joseph Cecala Lifeguard classes will be held: June 2, 3, 4, 5,6 (2:30-7pm), June 7 (9:00am-2:00pm) YOU MUST ATTEND ALL CLASSES!! Lifeguarding ClassSchoolWant to be a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard? Then sign up for Morris School District Community School’s comprehensive lifeguard training program, designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course is perfect for those passionate about water safety and eager to make a difference in their community. What You Need To Know Before Becoming a Lifeguard The American Red Cross requires important prerequisites that must be met in order to take the class. A participant: Must be at least 15 years old on or before the last day of class Pass course specific swimming skill prerequisites prior to the start of training. See details below. Prerequisite 1: Complete the following swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.) Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Prerequisite 2: Complete the following timed events within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.) Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
