About Summer Music Academy

The Summer Music Academy at the Morris Community School is a comprehensive, four-week instrumental music program that gives students the chance to grow as musicians in a focused, supportive, and fun summer environment. Designed for developing players who want to strengthen their skills, make new friends, and perform in ensembles, the academy blends daily rehearsals, small-group instruction, and music fundamentals in a structured camp-style day.

Program overview

The Summer Music Academy serves instrumental music students who have already begun playing an instrument and are ready to build on what they learned during the school year. The program runs on Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm from June 29, 2026 to July 24th, we are closed July 3, 2026.

Who the academy serves

The academy is designed for rising 4th to 12th grade who are actively involved in band or orchestra at school or with a private teacher. It is an ideal fit for young musicians who are comfortable with the basics of their instrument and are ready to take on ensemble music, sectionals, and structured practice expectations. This program is open to all students in grades 4-12th regardless of their school district.

Daily experience

Each day at the Summer Music Academy includes a mix of full ensemble rehearsals, small-group sectionals, and musicianship activities such as rhythm work, ear training, and music reading. Students spend concentrated time playing their instrument, working with experienced music educators who focus on tone, technique, balance, and listening skills in a positive, encouraging setting
